Spring Fever

Having a case of spring fever today with the temperatures in the 50's. Birds were singing and the sun was shining. But living in the midwest has taught me that tomorrow may bring a load of snow and ice.

I had a few baby herb plants in the aquarium greenhouse that had managed to survive for the last month or so. They were re-potted into a wide mouth mason jar and topped with a sandwich baggie, held in place with the jar ring. Not a new idea, I'm sure but still feeling quite proud of my engineering abilities.

Seeds for tomatoes, green peppers, basil, and bush beans were started in egg cartons and covered with recycled plastic containers. These were left over from last year so we'll see if they sprout....

Our house only has one window that receives good winter light so they are all hogging the window sill. I may have to rotate them around so they all get some rays.

I love the smell of spring soil...can't wait to get out my shovel and dig!

Summer Blahs

It's the heat of summer and everything has dried up dead this year.  The drought in this part of the country has become quite pronounced...
